When I received notice of termination of my apartment in Mallorca at the end of September 2023, my world collapsed.
Looking for a new apartment here again, given the current rental prices. In addition, I had already booked my trip to Asia at the end of October and therefore hardly had any time to look around. Everything felt so bad again and I asked myself again why it was all happening. Why can't something run normally?
Luckily there were friends who motivated me and helped so that I didn't end up on the street with my belongings. So for me it was once again: Get rid of things that you don't need. No sooner said than done. I stored the most important things with a good friend for the winter. Thank you again for that.
Sometimes freedom begins right at the point where something breaks away.
Going to Asia with a strange feeling
It was with a strange feeling that I left Mallorca in October to start my trip to Asia. My goal was actually to stay there until the end of March, but would it be enough to find a new apartment on Mallorca?
When I arrived in Thailand, these thoughts disappeared and, like every winter, I spent the best time there. If you can travel through Asia for four to five months with just a backpack full of things and notice that you don't lack anything, then that should also work for Mallorca.
The idea: I don't need a new apartment
The idea came to me more and more: I don't need a new apartment in Mallorca. I have my van, in which I slept very often by the sea last summer.
And so in March, while skiing in Austria, I made the decision: This is what I'm going to do now. I no longer needed support in my project, but it was there. With no housing shortage, I went to Asia again for three weeks because I still had some time. There was also someone waiting for me there, which I was really looking forward to. Back to Mallorca, but different
In mid-April I went back to Mallorca in my van. I was excited to see what it would feel like and, above all, how I would be able to do my office work: without an office with a fast internet connection, without a 32-inch monitor and without many of the other things you have in an apartment.
And now I'm sitting here on June 15th, 2024 in my van by the sea and writing this blog post. What can I tell you: After two months in the van, it was the best decision I could have made.
I spend every day in the most beautiful places on Mallorca, standing by the sea and listening to the wind or the waves. I didn't have any of that in my office. I sit in my van and can do my work thanks to a fast mobile internet connection with no data limit for 20 euros a month. A dream, isn't it?
I also save over 12,000 euros a year on rent, water and electricity and I don't lack for anything.
What I want to give you
If you also think that everything is going wrong or against you again, then trust that everything will be okay. There are no tasks that you cannot master. You just have to want it and have the belief in it.
